About

I first became interested in photography while living and working abroad, but since returning to the UK in the early 1990's, my local habitat of Dorset and the New Forest has been the main focus of my attention, providing inspiration for my passion for landscape photography.

I completed a City and Guilds course at the Arts Institute, Bournemouth, in 1994. Since then, my pictures have appeared in numerous national and county publications and have been used for book covers and on cards and calendars. I am a regular contributor to the UK photographic press, in particular Digital SLR Photography magazine and in 2007 wrote their 'Landscape Masterclass' series. I shoot stock images for various image libraries, including the fine-art image library Trevillion Images. My first book, 'Romantic Dorset', was published by Halsgrove in April 2008.

Prints are for sale through local galleries (see links) as well as directly from this site. I exhibit regularly, and details are posted on the 'Exhibitions' page.

Having shot Fuji Velvia on a Pentax 67 for a number of years, in 2006 I made the switch to digital and now shoot mostly on a Canon 1ds II and Canon 5D.

In January 2003, I set up Mark Bauer Photography with my partner, Julie Whitmarsh. As well as selling my work to editorial and advertising clients, we also supply prints to businesses and individuals.
